Kunovská dam

Basic information

Kunovská priehrada (Kunovská dam) is a suburban recreational area. It is located 5 km to the northeast from the district town Senica in the edge of the White Carpathians in the direction of Myjava. There are grassy areas and a 250 m long sandy beach around the water reservoir. The reservoir is suitable for swimming, motorless boats and fishing (possibility to buy visitor's fishing ticket).

For hikers, cyclists and in-line skaters, the reservoir Kunovská priehrada is connected with the town via a cycling route along the Teplica stream.

The recreational area is equipped with a large parking space with a capacity of 300 vehicles, changing rooms, restrooms, a marina (boat and water bike rental), sports grounds and sports equipment rental (miniature golf, tennis and volleyball court, giant chess, Russian bowling) and a beach volleyball court. Kids can enjoy the swings, climbing frames and sandboxes. A restaurant, snack bar, grocery store and fast-food stalls are open during the summer season.

Educational cycling trail

The educational trail Senica - Kunovská priehrada was built as part of the project “Let's get to know and protect the diversity of our nature” by the Town of Senica and Zoo Hodonín as the cross-border partner of the project. The educational trail consists of 9 information boards and ends with a children's corner with interactive environmental features. The stops are focused on nature conservation, gaining theoretical knowledge and practical experience of the preserved original habitats, landscape features, wild animals and plants along the cycle path and around Kunovská priehrada.

Three boards are located on the cycling route (1. Information on the river Teplica, 2. Medicinal plants, 3. Insects) and the remaining six boards in the recreational area (4. Invertebrates, 5. Fish, 6. Reptiles and Amphibians, 7. Water birds , 8. Mammals, 9. Trees and Aquatic plants). As part of the project, wooden benches were installed and 20 trees planted in the recreational area.
